About the S07

The Deepal S07 is the first model from Changan’s Deepal brand in the UK: a 4.75-metre electric coupé-SUV with sharp styling, pop-out door handles and a single, fully loaded trim priced just under the £40,000 expensive-car tax threshold.

## Battery, range and charging

A CATL-supplied NMC battery with 75 kWh usable (80 kWh gross) gives up to 295 miles on the WLTP cycle and about 3.8 miles per kWh. Peak DC charging is 93 kW, so 10–80% takes just under 50 minutes – one of the S07’s weaker points. 11 kW AC charging, a heat pump and vehicle-to-load (V2L) are standard.

## Performance and driving

A single 218 PS (215 bhp) motor drives the rear wheels and takes the S07 from 0–62 mph in 7.9 seconds. Grip and steering are reassuring and Sport mode sharpens throttle response, but on 20-inch wheels the ride feels busy over broken roads, and tyre roar is noticeable at speed. The turning circle is 11.5 metres.

## Interior and space

The cabin feels upmarket for the money. The centrepiece is a 15.6-inch touchscreen that can swivel towards the driver or passenger, joined by an augmented-reality head-up display. There is a panoramic glass roof, heated and ventilated front seats, a 10-way electric driver’s seat and a 10-speaker sound system. The boot holds 445 litres, plus a 125-litre front trunk.

## Technology and safety

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, a 360-degree camera and a cooled wireless phone charger are all standard, along with adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assistance. The only option is a retractable tow bar rated at 1,500 kg.

## Who is it for?

Buyers who want a lot of equipment and a distinctive design for under £40,000. If charging speed and ride comfort matter more, look at the Tesla Model Y, Skoda Elroq or Kia EV3.
