Overview
The Jaecoo 7 SHS-P (from £35,170) is the top version of the Jaecoo Jaecoo 7, a plug-in hybrid SUV. It offers a claimed range of 56 mi electric, 204 hp and 0–62 mph in 8.5 s.
The Jaecoo 7 SHS-P is the plug-in hybrid version of Jaecoo’s family SUV, and the most efficient model in the range for drivers who can charge at home. It comes in Luxury trim at £35,170 or as the Black Luxury, with darkened exterior details, at £36,505 – both below the £40,000 expensive-car tax threshold.
Battery, range and charging
An 18.3 kWh LFP battery provides up to 56 miles of electric range on the WLTP cycle; Electrifying expects 45–50 miles in real use, enough for most daily commutes without starting the engine. DC rapid charging takes 30–80% in about 20 minutes. On AC it charges at 3.3 kW, so a full charge takes around six and a half hours. The fuel tank holds 60 litres, and company-car tax is 10% in 2026/27.
Performance and driving
The 1.5-litre turbo engine and electric motor produce 204 PS and 310 Nm, giving 0–62 mph in 8.5 seconds and a 112 mph top speed. The car is front-wheel drive only. It is quiet and smooth in electric mode, but the engine becomes noisy under load and reviewers note fussy low-speed ride and plenty of body lean in corners. It can tow up to 1,500 kg.
Interior and space
Jaecoo quotes the same 500-litre boot as the other 7s, rising to 1,265 litres with the seats down. The Luxury trim is generously equipped: ventilated and heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, driver’s seat memory, electric passenger seat, head-up display and the opening panoramic roof. The column-mounted gear selector gives the cabin a cleaner, EV-like layout.
Technology and safety
A large central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker Sony system and a 540-degree camera are standard. The Jaecoo 7 earned five stars from Euro NCAP. Some climate controls are only reachable through the screen, which reviewers criticise.
Who is it for?
Drivers who can charge at home or work and do mostly short trips, especially company-car users. Rivals include the BYD Seal U DM-i, MG HS Plug-in Hybrid and Kia Sportage PHEV.
