Overview
The Jaecoo E5 (from £27,505) is the top version of the Jaecoo Jaecoo 5, an electric SUV. It offers a claimed range of 248 miles, 207 hp and 0–62 mph in 7.7 s.
The Jaecoo E5 is the battery-electric version of the compact Jaecoo 5 SUV, and one of the cheaper family-sized EVs in the UK. It costs £27,505 in Pure trim and £30,505 as a Luxury – only about £3,000 more than the equivalent petrol car.
Battery, range and charging
A 60.9 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery gives an official range of 248 miles. DC rapid charging peaks at 80 kW: 30–80% takes about 27 minutes, while Electrifying measured roughly 40 minutes for 10–80%. That is slower than many rivals that charge at 100–150 kW. Vehicle-to-load is standard, with a socket in the boot for powering appliances.
Performance and driving
The single front motor produces 207 PS and 288 Nm, so 0–62 mph takes 7.7 seconds – well over two seconds quicker than the petrol car – and top speed is 108 mph. Reviewers rate it as a far nicer drive than the petrol version: smooth, quiet and stable on the motorway. Regenerative braking has three levels, the strongest allowing one-pedal driving, though changing it means going into the touchscreen.
Interior and space
The boot measures 480 litres, rising to 1,180 litres with the rear seats folded, and the body is 4,380 mm long. The E5 gets pet-friendly seat material plus a dedicated pet mode and camping mode. Pure has cloth seats; Luxury adds synthetic leather, heated and ventilated electric front seats, a heated wheel, ambient lighting and a panoramic glass roof.
Technology and safety
A 13.2-inch touchscreen and 8.8-inch driver display come as standard, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Adaptive cruise with lane centring, emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and a 540-degree camera are fitted to every car. The Luxury version adds an eight-speaker Sony system with external speakers for a picnic mode. Company-car drivers pay 4% benefit-in-kind in 2026/27.
Who is it for?
Private buyers and company-car drivers who want an affordable, roomy electric SUV and do not need very fast charging. Rivals include the MG S5 EV, BYD Atto 2 and Kia EV3.
