About the B05
The Leapmotor B05 is a five-door electric hatchback with a wide, coupé-like stance, aimed at buyers who would otherwise look at a Volkswagen ID.3 or MG4. In the UK it comes in one fully loaded specification, priced at £30,495 on the road, or £28,995 once Leapmotor's own £1,500 Leap-Grant is applied. It is 4.43 m long and 1,880 mm wide, which makes it unusually broad for the class.
## Battery, range and charging
A 67.1 kWh battery provides up to 300 miles on the WLTP cycle, with official consumption of 14.8 kWh/100 km. Peak DC charging is 174 kW, and Leapmotor quotes 30–80% in about 18 minutes. That is among the quickest charging times in this part of the market.
## Performance and driving
The single motor drives the rear wheels and makes 218 PS and 240 Nm. Leapmotor quotes 0–62 mph in 6.7 seconds, and there is a Launch Control function with its own on-screen display. The B05 is not rated to tow, though Leapmotor has said it is looking at allowing a towbar-mounted bike rack.
## Interior and space
The boot holds 345 litres, rising to 1,400 litres with the rear seats folded. Standard kit includes eco-leather seats (electric adjustment for both front seats), heated front seats and steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof with electric blind, frameless doors and 64-colour ambient lighting. Leapmotor counts 25 storage spaces around the cabin.
## Technology and safety
A 14.6-inch central touchscreen runs Leap OS, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a ventilated wireless phone charger and over-the-air updates. The audio system has 12 speakers. There are 21 driver-assistance functions, seven airbags and a 360-degree camera, and the B05 has a five-star Euro NCAP rating.
## Who is it for?
The B05 suits drivers who want a quick, long-range electric hatchback with everything included as standard. Rivals include the Volkswagen ID.3, MG4 EV and Kia EV3.
