Overview
The Omoda 7 (from £29,965) is the entry-level version of the Omoda Omoda 7, a petrol SUV. It offers 147 hp and 0–62 mph in 10.4 s.
The Omoda 7 Petrol is the entry point to Omoda's mid-size SUV. It is longer and more practical than the Omoda 5, and its borderless 'parametric' grille and full-width LED tail-lights match the plug-in hybrid. It comes in a single, well-equipped Knight trim priced at £29,965.
Engine and economy
The engine is the same 1.6-litre turbo petrol unit as in the Omoda 5, producing 147 PS and 275 Nm. It drives the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The official WLTP figure is 38.7 mpg with CO2 of 168 g/km, so the first-year VED is £1,465 compared with £170 for the SHS-P. The fuel tank holds 51 litres.
Performance and driving
The car reaches 62 mph in 10.4 seconds and goes on to 118 mph. At 1,565 kg it is roughly 300 kg lighter than the plug-in hybrid. That helps it feel lighter on its feet, although it has much less shove. There are Eco, Normal and Sport modes, and the braked towing limit is 1,250 kg, the same as the SHS-P.
Interior and space
At 4,660 mm long, the Omoda 7 has a 639-litre boot. This is 49 litres more than the SHS-P because there is no hybrid battery under the floor, and it is one of the biggest boots in its class. The 60/40 split rear seats fold flat. Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloys, privacy glass, a 6-way powered driver's seat with memory, and a heated steering wheel. Ground clearance is 171 mm.
Technology and safety
A 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen sits alongside an 8.88-inch driver display. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and includes connected sat-nav. A cabin fragrance system and a cooled 50 W wireless charger are also fitted. Safety kit includes AEB, adaptive cruise, lane change assist, emergency lane keeping, driver monitoring and eight airbags.
Who is it for?
The Petrol suits families who want maximum boot space for the money and have no way to charge a plug-in hybrid. Rivals include the Jaecoo 7, Chery Tiggo 7 and MG HS.
