About the Omoda 9

The Omoda 9 SHS is Omoda's flagship: a large, five-seat plug-in hybrid SUV with four-wheel drive, priced against premium German rivals at a much lower cost. It comes in Noble trim at £44,995 or as the darker-styled Black Noble at £46,495.

## Battery, range and charging

A CATL lithium iron phosphate battery of about 35 kWh (34.5 kWh usable) gives an official electric-only range of 90 miles. UK media quote up to 93 miles. With the 70-litre fuel tank, total range is over 700 miles. DC charging peaks at 70 kW, and a 30–80% top-up takes around 25 minutes. CO2 is 38 g/km, so the car sits in a low benefit-in-kind band.

## Performance and driving

A 1.5-litre turbo engine works with two electric motors and a three-speed hybrid transmission, so all four wheels are driven. Omoda's tech table gives a combined 619 PS and 765 Nm. However, the headline figures on its own website, as well as Fleet News and Electrifying.com, quote 449 PS and 700 Nm. Either way, 0–62 mph takes 4.9 seconds and top speed is 112 mph. Reviewers find it smooth, quiet and relaxed, although the adaptive (CDC) suspension can feel unsettled on poor roads. It can tow 1,500 kg braked.

## Interior and space

At 4,775 mm long, the Omoda 9 has a 660-litre boot, rising to 1,783 litres with the rear seats folded. A 1.3-metre opening panoramic sunroof with an electric blind fills the cabin with light. The front seats are heated, ventilated and offer massage, and the cabin has suede headlining and a head-up display. Ground clearance is a generous 210 mm.

## Technology and safety

Two curved screens totalling 24.6 inches are backed up by physical buttons. A Sony premium audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and connected sat-nav with live charger data are all standard. A surround-view camera with a 'transparent chassis' mode helps with parking. Driver aids include adaptive cruise, lane change assist, blind-spot warning and driver fatigue monitoring. The car has a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty, and the battery is covered for eight years/100,000 miles.

## Who is it for?

The Omoda 9 is a strong value choice for company-car drivers and families who want plug-in hybrid running costs, four-wheel drive and luxury equipment. Rivals include the Volvo XC60 T8, BMW X3 30e and Lexus NX 450h+.
