Overview
The GWM Haval Jolion Pro (from £21,995) is a hybrid (self-charging) SUV from GWM. It offers 189 hp.
The Haval Jolion Pro is GWM’s compact family SUV and the brand’s best-known model in the UK. It is sold only as a full (self-charging) hybrid in three trims: Premium, Lux and Ultra. Its appeal rests on a low starting price and a long list of standard equipment.
Engine and economy
The 1.5-litre petrol engine combines with an electric motor and a small 1.69 kWh battery, so it never needs plugging in. Total output is 189 hp and 375 Nm, sent to the front wheels through a two-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Official economy is 47 mpg with 133 g/km of CO2, but Carwow’s testers struggled to beat 40 mpg in real driving – well short of Toyota’s hybrids.
Performance and driving
With 375 Nm on tap it pulls briskly away from junctions and feels quicker than many rivals around town. On the move it is less convincing: the suspension thuds over sharp bumps, the steering feels disconnected and the gearbox drones at motorway speeds. Braked towing is limited to a modest 750 kg.
Interior and space
At 4,470 mm long it is Qashqai-sized, and rear legroom is genuinely generous. The boot is the weak point at 255 litres, expanding to 916 litres with the seats folded, though there is a step in the floor. Some of the interior plastics feel cheap for the money of the higher trims.
Technology and safety
All versions have a central touchscreen, digital instruments and a full set of driver aids, though the lane-keeping and warning systems can be over-eager. The infotainment lacks DAB radio and built-in sat-nav, so you rely on Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. It has not been tested by Euro NCAP, but scored five stars in Australia’s ANCAP tests.
Who is it for?
Buyers who prioritise rear-seat space and kit per pound over driving polish. The Dacia Duster Hybrid, MG ZS Hybrid+ and Toyota Yaris Cross are the obvious rivals, and all have bigger boots or better economy.
