Overview

The MG ZS Hybrid+ (from £23,995) is the top version of the MG ZS, a hybrid (self-charging) SUV. It offers 196 hp and 0–62 mph in 8.7 s.

The ZS Hybrid+ is the self-charging hybrid version of MG's small family SUV, priced from £23,995 for the SE, with a better-equipped Trophy above it. It's the ZS most buyers choose, combining automatic convenience and strong performance with economy that the petrol model can't match.

Engine, economy and charging

A 1.5-litre petrol engine is combined with an electric motor and a 1.83 kWh battery that recharges itself through braking and the engine, so it never needs plugging in. A three-speed automatic and two driver-selectable modes, EV and Hybrid, manage the blend. Official economy is 55.4 mpg combined, and MG revised the motor and generator for 2026 to cut noise and vibration.

Performance and driving

Combined output is 196 PS with 465 Nm of torque, cutting the 0–62 mph time to 8.7 seconds – far quicker than the 115 PS petrol. It moves off in near-silence on electric power around town. Steering is light, the suspension deals with bumps with reasonable composure, and it holds its line in corners without being sporty.

Interior and space

The ZS is 4,430 mm long and offers a 443-litre boot, expanding to 1,457 litres with the rear seats down, so the hybrid system costs nothing in luggage space. Trophy adds an opening panoramic sunroof, black leather-style and suede-style upholstery, a heated steering wheel and a power tailgate. The rear bench is on the firm side.

Technology and safety

Every version has a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen, a 7-inch digital cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and the MG iSMART app for remote climate and locking. Adaptive cruise control is standard, along with lane-keep assist, blind-spot detection with lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert and driver monitoring. Trophy gets 18-inch 'Sabre' alloys and a 360-degree camera.

Who is it for?

Families who do plenty of urban driving and want hybrid economy and an automatic gearbox at a sensible price. Main rivals are the Toyota Yaris Cross, Renault Captur E-Tech and Nissan Juke Hybrid – the ZS undercuts most of them while offering a bigger boot.
